Here is how the work started off after doing a little prep work on it.  The halo and chalice of the icon are painted in gold paint and the rest of the work is done with oils.

Here is the next step in the paintings evolution after I had stated applying some additional detail to the foreground. As with many of my works I also boosted the definition of the background and put a thin dark wash over the work do give it an aged appearance.

As is very common with me, I felt that I needed to have my picture taken with my new painting.

Here is one final photo of disciple just after I had finished up the core of the work on her.  Her paint is still very wet and reflective in this shot.
